Visual Arts

Irene McCormack Catholic College Art students are provided with an excellent programme covering all traditional and contemporary aspects of the Visual Arts, is taught in a fully resourced facility by internationally experienced Art Teachers, who are still active in the industry.

In Year 8, all students are introduced to the aspects of Art and Craft in two separate programmes, covering studio areas such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. In support of their practical work they are introduced to the elements and principles of Art.

In Year 9, students can select to study Visual Art as a year course at two periods a week, and in Year 10 as a year course at four periods a week. Both options allow interested students to accelerate their art learning and to develop their creativity and their skills, which will best equip them for Senior Schooling.

There are four art courses offered in the senior years: Year 11 Art and Design; Year 12 Art and Design; Year 11 2A and 2B Visual Art and Year 12 TEE Art. These courses allow students to specialise in a number of studio fields as well as develop critical analysis skills and a diverse knowledge of Art History.

The College art students regularly visit exhibitions, have guest artists visit, and work within the Community on art based projects.

Each year Irene McCormack Catholic College students enter a number of state and nation wide art competitions. 2006 has seen much success with one Year 8 student  achieving third prize in the National “Mary MacKillop students Art Awards”, which is touring Nationally over the next year. As well as one of the Year 12 TEE Art students obtaining First prize in the “Angelico Art Exhibition”, a prestigious exhibition showcasing the top quality of Artworks from Senior School Students from Catholic Schools through out the state.
